The Florida Hospital Gastrointestinal Cancer Program

Florida Hospital Cancer Institute’s Colorectal/GI Cancer Care Coordinator, Thelma Brooks RN, BSN, is here to help you make informed choices about your care and remove any roadblocks on your journey to health and wellness.

Gastric Cancer
While it is the world’s fourth most prevalent cancer, it is not common in the US. Early symptoms often mimic other less ominous conditions, so gastric cancers are often identified at later stages.
Colon Cancer
Colorectal cancer invades the colon or rectum, and usually begins as a small, mushroom-shaped polyp. These common, fleshy adenomatous growths are usually benign, but may turn cancerous over time.
Rectal Cancer
If you live in the United States, the risk of developing colon cancer at some point in your life is about 7%, or about 1 in 14.
Pancreatic Cancer
If pancreatic cancer is suspected, there are multiple studies that can be performed to make the diagnosis and determine treatment options.
Liver Cancer
Early on, liver cancer doesn’t always produce identifiable symptoms. As a result, it often evades detection until progressing to later stages.
